Alan Ross-Sercombe Director
Alan has worked in VAT since 1975, initially with HM Customs & Excise (as was) and later with for two of the “Big Four” firms of accountants before becoming a founder member of an independent tax consultancy in 1992. In 2005 he formed OMNIS with Nigel Gibbon and Alan Henderson. Since leaving HMC&E he has assisted clients across the entire business spectrum and, in particular, has advised over 200 institutions in the charity/not-for-profit sector.

Nigel Gibbon Director
Nigel
leads the VAT and Customs Duty litigation team. He is a highly experienced lawyer who has specialised in VAT and other indirect taxes for over 20 years. He was formerly Head of VAT and Duty Appeals in HMC&E’s Solicitor’s Office in Manchester. Since leaving HMRC in 1996 he has represented a wide range of businesses, from major plcs to sole traders, in appeals to the VAT & Duties Tribunal and has dealt with a huge variety of VAT and Indirect Tax cases.

Alan Henderson Director Customs Duty
Alan is one of the few independent consultants in the UK with vast knowledge and experience of Customs Duty, Excise Duties, warehousing, CFSP and valuation. He was a senior officer with HMC&E, joining KPMG in the late 1980s. Having formed his own customs duty consultancy in the early 1990s, he then joined Alan in an independent tax consultancy before joining Omnis at its inception in 2005.

Nick Hunt Senior Consultant VAT
Nick was for 3 years a VAT officer in Customs & Excise before leaving to join the private sector with Grant Thornton. He joined Alan at The TACS Partnership in 2004 and joined Omnis at its start in 2005. He has particular experience of VAT issues in the not-for profit and land & property sectors and in partial exemption.

Chris Owen VAT Consultant
Chris joined OMNIS direct from HMRC following a long career in the former Customs & Excise. He joined Customs in 1974 and trained as a VAT audit officer, a role which he undertook as Officer and Senior Officer for nearly 20 years.
After a spell in Excise Policy Unit Chris joined Customs’ Solicitor’s Office in Manchester as a Tribunal Advocate, a role he enjoyed until he joined Omnis in 2006. Over a period in excess of 10 years Chris has become skillful in presenting a wide range of appeals before the Tribunal where he achieved a reputation for being scrupulously fair in his dealings with Appellants. Chris now uses those skills and high reputation to assist the clients of OMNIS.

Natasha Forsyth VAT Consultant
Natasha was with HM Revenue and Customs for several years, where she was a member of the National Advice Service with responsibility for giving telephone advice to VAT registered businesses. She joined Omnis in 2006. Her knowledge of VAT enables her to assist clients over a broad range of issues.
